Do you know how to stay safe while vaping this summer?Check out these tips on keeping your vaping e liquid as cooled off as you are for maximum enjoyment.
Summer is here and it's time for road trips, picnics, beach days and fun in the sun. For those who vape, it's also time to take a little extra care.
While the rising temperatures and exposure to sunlight are great for us, they're not so good for our vape e liquid and vape pens. During this time of year, they're particularly susceptible to damage.
Read on for our top tips on how to stay safe while vaping during the summer.
How to Vape Safely this Summer
1.) Keep Your E Liquid Below 105º F
When temperatures start soaring in the summer months, you need to take extra care of your e liquid to make sure it stays safe to use.
If it reaches a temperature of 105º F/40º C, it will begin to deteriorate in quality, and there are certain changes you need to look out for. If you notice that the color or viscosity isn't quite the same as it once was, you need to throw it away.
This means that the nicotine in the liquid has broken down. As a result, the flavor will have changed, and it's not likely to be pleasant. Even if you let it cool back down, it won't go back to normal.
In order to avoid this happening to your e liquid, never leave your vape pen or juice in a car on a hot day. The heat and light will both cause irreversible damage. If you're going to be spending a lot of time in the sun, keep them in the shade so they don't overheat. Otherwise, you'll have to throw away your juice and buy a replacement bottle.
If you do happen to forget and leave your vape juice in the car, don't use it. Doing so could clog up the tank, causing even more damage. It's best to just cut your losses and throw the bottle away.
2.) Store it Correctly
As well as keeping your e liquid out of the sun while you're out and about, you also need to store it correctly at home.
Bottles should only be kept in cool, dry places such as cupboards or medicine cabinets. a shelf in direct sunlight is an absolute no-no. If you like, you can even store them in the fridge to preserve their freshness and taste for as long as possible.
If you're going to spend a day at the beach, consider bringing a small cooler pack along to store your vape equipment in, or even throwing an ice pack in with it if you keep it in a normal bag. Just make sure it's kept sealed so it's not exposed to any moisture.
3.) Take Care of Your Batteries
Vaping has been getting a bad rap as reports of injuries caused by exploding vape pens have hit the news. In reality, these incidents are rare.
Nevertheless, you should take the necessary steps to avoid becoming a victim yourself. It's better to be safe than sorry!
Statistically, charging is the most dangerous time, as 80% of e-cigarette explosions or fires happen while the battery is being charged. That's why it's important to make sure you charge yours correctly.
Most vape pens use Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries. While these batteries are great for portable devices, they can be easily damaged by improper use. Like e liquid, they need to be kept below a certain temperature. If they reach 100°F, battery cells will be damaged, resulting in a reduced charging capacity.
For this reason, you shouldn't charge your vape pen in your car. The battery could overheat very quickly in such an environment.
If you're using a USB port to charge your vape pen, only use an approved charger provided by the manufacturer of the device. Using cheap knock-off chargers can cause damage to the battery and pose worrying safety risks.
Batteries should be stored separately from the rest of the vape pen, but they can be kept just anywhere. Even just putting them in your pocket with some loose change can be dangerous. This is because lithium batteries are liable to short if they come into contact with metal.
4.) Stay Hydrated
This is a good summer tip for just about anyone, but it's particularly important for people who vape.
Vaping can dehydrate you. This is because e liquid contains a substance called Propylene Glycol, which causes your body to absorb less water.
Changing to a vape juice that contains a lower amount of this substance is a good way to combat this effect.
Staying on top of your hydration is crucial, as your body won't show any clear signs that you need more water until you're already dehydrated. These include dry eyes, dry mouth, dark urine and fatigue.
If you notice any of these signs, increase your water intake immediately. Drinking electrolytes will also help your body to retain more moisture. However, the best thing to do is to prevent dehydration before it happens, so make sure you drink enough water throughout the day on those hot summer days!
If you're drinking diuretic drinks like coffee, tea, and alcohol, make sure you don't forget to drink glasses of water in between.
5.) Use a Menthol Vape Juice to Keep Cool
Changing the type of e liquid you use can help you beat the heat in the summer.
Using vape juice flavors containing peppermint, spearmint or eucalyptus will have a cooling effect. One such flavor is Menthol Arctic Blizzard.
Fruity vape juice flavors are great for summer, too. Strawberry, orange, kiwi and apple varieties give you that nice, refreshing feeling that we so often crave when the weather is hot.
If you follow the tips above, you'll be able to enjoy vaping all summer long without any mishaps.
While you're out enjoying the sunshine, just make sure to take care of your e liquids, chargers and batteries, and you'll have no problems at all.
